Dedication & Inspiration
Keala dedicates her journey of becoming a hula teacher to the memories of the late Kumu Lorraine Kinnamon, founder of Te Hau Nui School of Hula and Tahitian Dance in Santa Cruz who passed away in 2024 and to her hula sisters for their love and support on this journey to build the legacy of Kumu Lorraine.

Testimonial of a kumu hula
“Keala’s deep interest in Hawaiian culture along with her hunger to learn songs, stories and history of the dances are a just few of the qualities that make her a great candidate for one who is expected to protect, preserve and perpetuate an ancient hula lineage. But it is in her quiet humility where she can access the guidance of our hula ancestors. It is without hesitation that I support Keala’s Kūhai hula journey with Frank Kawaikapuokalani (Lehua).” –Kumu Kala from Kūhai Hālau O Kala’alohiikamakaokalaua’e Pā ‘Olapa Kahiko

With our deepest gratitude
From Te Hau Nui School of Hula & Tahitian Dance
“Keala has been dancing hula since the age of four and has grown into a talented, dedicated and gracious young woman. We are proud of her for saying yes and committing her time to learning the ancient hula, chants, and protocol of our remarkable Kumu lineage. This program requires focused concentration and discipline, ultimately resulting in being honored with the esteemed title of Kumu Hula upon completion of this program. Keala pridefully represents the next generation of Te Hau Nui School of Hula and Tahitian Dance Kuhai Halau Kaleiokalaua’e led by our late Kumu Hula Lorraine Kinnamon. Lorraine is pridefully delighted too! Thank you for your support to make this Uniki Program possible for Keala!” – Charmaine Moniz
